Scooter — Ramp! (The Logical Song): lyrics, story & video

When Supertramp met the rave

In 2001, Scooter did something audacious: they took Supertramp's "The Logical Song" (1979) — a thoughtful prog-rock reflection on growing up — and turned it into a 150 BPM rave demolition ball. The result? Ramp! (The Logical Song) hit #1 in Germany, Austria, the UK, Ireland, and a dozen other countries. It became Scooter's most commercially successful single ever.

The story behind the song

The idea to sample Supertramp came from the creative tension between taking something familiar and making it completely new. Where Supertramp was introspective and melancholic, Scooter's version is explosive and euphoric.

H.P. Baxxter and producers Rick J. Jordan and Jens Thele kept the iconic opening vocal line — "When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful" — but rebuilt everything around it with pounding kicks, acid synths, and Baxxter's signature shouts.

The contrast works brilliantly: the original's wistfulness gets turbo-charged into a celebration. You're not reflecting on youth — you're RECLAIMING it on the dancefloor.

Getting clearance for the sample required Supertramp's approval, and the band reportedly appreciated the creative reimagining (even if it was far from what they originally intended).

The video matches the track's energy — massive stage production, a roaring crowd, and H.P. Baxxter in full command.

Commercial impact

Ramp! didn't just chart well — it was inescapable in 2001. It dominated European radio, TV music channels, and club playlists simultaneously. For many people, especially in the UK and Ireland, this was their introduction to Scooter.

The track also appeared on the album We Bring the Noise! and became the centerpiece of Scooter's live shows for years.

The live experience

At concerts, Ramp! is an instant detonation. The recognition is immediate — that Supertramp melody triggers something in people's brains, and when the beat drops, all control is lost. At the Halloween Rave Party at Ergo Arena, this will be one of the highlights.
