Scooter & H.P. Baxxter — complete band history
30+ years of rave domination
Scooter is not just a band. It's a phenomenon. Over 30 years, they've sold over 100 million records, released 20+ studio albums, scored more than 80 chart hits, and performed thousands of shows across the globe. They hold the record for the most top-10 singles by any act in German chart history. And they're still going.
The beginning: Hamburg, 1993
Scooter was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1993. The founding lineup consisted of:
- H.P. Baxxter (Hans Peter Geerdes, born March 16, 1964) — vocalist, frontman
- Rick J. Jordan (Rick Jordan) — DJ, producer
- Ferris Bueller (Soren Buhler) — DJ, producer (left in 1998)
Before Scooter, Baxxter and Jordan were part of Celebrate the Nun, a synthpop project active from 1988-1992. When that project dissolved, they wanted something harder, faster, and more aggressive. Scooter was born from that desire.
The breakthrough: 1994-1996
The debut single Hyper Hyper (1994) was an instant smash — over a million copies sold. It established the Scooter formula: pounding beats, shouted vocals, euphoric synths.
Follow-up hits came rapid-fire: Move Your Ass (1995), Back in the UK (1995), Let Me Be Your Valentine (1996). By the mid-90s, Scooter was one of the biggest acts in European dance music.
Albums from this era: ...And the Beat Goes On! (1995), Our Happy Hardcore (1996), Wicked! (1996).
Peak era: 1998-2004
The late 90s and early 2000s saw Scooter reach new heights:
- How Much Is the Fish (1998) — absurd genius, #1 hit
- Ramp! (The Logical Song) (2001) — UK #1, biggest commercial hit
- Nessaja (2002) — emotional rave anthem
- Maria (I Like It Loud) (2003) — massive singalong hit
- The Night (2003) — dark club masterpiece
Albums like No Time to Chill (1998), We Bring the Noise! (2001), and The Stadium Techno Experience (2003) defined this era.
Evolution: 2005-2015
Scooter kept evolving. Jumping All Over the World (2007) was another #1 album. They incorporated elements of hardstyle, jumpstyle, and electro house while maintaining their core identity.
Rick J. Jordan left the band in 2014, but Scooter continued. H.P. Baxxter remained the constant — the face, the voice, the energy.
Modern era: 2016-present
In the streaming age, Scooter adapted again. Collaborations with modern producers, festival appearances, and a relentless touring schedule keep them relevant. New fans discover Scooter through viral moments, while the original fanbase never left.
By 2026, H.P. Baxxter is in his early 60s — and still delivering performances that would exhaust artists half his age. That's not just impressive. That's legendary.
H.P. Baxxter — the man behind the shout
Hans Peter Geerdes was born in Leer, East Frisia, Germany. Before music, he studied English and Philosophy. He's known for:
- His trademark spiky blonde hair (an icon since the 90s)
- His powerful stage presence and crowd control
- His surprisingly quiet and intellectual offstage personality
- His love of animals (he's had pet reptiles for years)
- His relentless work ethic — still touring in his 60s
